Small Business Spotlight: Made by Yub

As a small business ourselves, the IDG Advertising team loves supporting other small businesses in their endeavors, especially now more than ever. If you’re looking for a locally-owned business that deserves your support, we’re recommending Made by Yub, our Small Business Spotlight for the month of July.

The Bakestress

Raven Gates, nicknamed Yub by her mother from a young age, is the owner of the online bakery Made by Yub. The head “bakestress”, as she calls herself, Raven crafts a wide variety of delicious homemade treats using recipes handed down to her from her mother and grandmother. After being diagnosed with chronic pain and fatigue, she turned to baking as a way to help her heal, and her passion for baked goods quickly ignited. She began by baking for family and friends in 2014, but she now satisfies the cravings of thousands of Southern California residents by shipping orders throughout Orange County and Los Angeles.

The Food

Made by Yub offers a wide variety of delicious cheesecakes, bundt cakes, cookies, and more. An advocate for inclusivity, Yub also offers vegan, gluten-free, and even dog-friendly options, so every member of the family can enjoy her scrumptious creations. Her mini cheesecakes are the star of the show, a recipe that her grandmother first created and Yub has perfected over the years. She offers an extraordinary array of unique flavors, such as Reese’s peanut butter cheesecake, apple pie cheesecake, and German chocolate cheesecake, to name just a few. In the midst of the pandemic, Yub has brought comfort to local residents by offering quarantine snacks, for which she offers quick shipping or local front door drop-off. She has also performed fun initiatives for front line workers, celebrating those that have put their lives on the line to help those suffering from COVID-19.

The Mission

Her COVID-19 initiatives aren’t the only way Yub shows she cares. A passionate advocate for survivors of domestic abuse, Yub consistently dedicates herself to empowering victims and survivors. Her ultimate goal in growing Made by Yub is to open a brick-and-mortar storefront where she can hire domestic violence survivors to help bake and run the shop. Made with love and motivated by compassion, Made by Yub’s delicious desserts go far beyond satisfying a cheesecake craving.

Made by Yub is open seven days a week, from 9am to 6pm. You can view her menu and place orders here.
